Does It Make Sense To Compare Maladaptive Daydreaming To Other Addictions?

I’m a teenage girl suffering from maladaptive daydreaming. I’ve joined the Yahoo Group for it, and I find that to be helpful to me. I consider maladaptive daydreaming to be an addiction, and I often compare it to other addictions. I watch shows like “Intervention” and I can see similarities between myself and the people suffering from drug and alcohol addictions, and I’ve talked to my friend who used to have an eating disorder about how maladaptive daydreaming and her disorder were similar, and she agreed with some of my points.

I can relate to the feeling that it’s not a problem, it’s a new way of life. When I see the people on “Intervention” realizing it’s an intervention and running out of the room, I can make sense of that. It’s like… You think you’ve finally found the only thing you’ll ever need to be happy, and then your friends want to take it away from you.

Anyway, does it make sense to do this?

Many people with this problem will pace, shake things in their hand, or do some other repetitive motion while daydreaming.Avoid any and all “triggers” that you will make the daydreaming worse.
